Preparing for your spray tan is very important, as this will keep your tan looking fresh and will ensure a longer lasting tan. Make sure you have waxed your legs, body etc. a day before your spray tanning appointment. Exfoliate the night before as this will remove the layers of dead skin cells. Moisturise well after exfoliating, but remember not before your tan! Do not wear deodorant, perfume, make-up or moisturiser to your tanning appointment. Wear loose clothing to your appointment so that after your tan is finished there is no rubbing on your skin which may make your tan uneven.
Do not shower for at least 5 hours, unless you have been sprayed with Velocity rapid tan formula. With your first shower, don't use soap, just allow the water to run over your body. (It will appear that your tan is rinsing away, but your tan will continue to process over another 8 hour period.) You may even appear darker after fully processing than you did when you left the salon. Pat dry, then moisturise very well ... continue to moisturise daily, as this will keep your tan looking fresh for longer. Your tan should last 7-10 days depending on your skin and how well you maintain your tan.
Depending on how well you prepare, and take care of your spray tan afterwards, about 5-10 days. If you tan regularly, your skin will get used to the spray, and will hold the colour longer. Then you might need a top up every 2 weeks or so.
Leave it on for at least 5 hours to achieve the best results. If you have been sprayed with Velocity, the rapid tan formula, then you only need to wait for an hour before showering.
Spray tans can give your skin a tanned looked without exposing it to the harmful UV rays. The active ingredient in most spray tan solutions is dihydroxyacetone (DHA). When it is applied to your skin, the DHA reacts with the dead cells in the outermost layer of the skin in order to temporarily darken the skin.
Yes. All of the components in spray tanning solution are approved by the FDA and have been used in food and cosmetics for many years. If you have an allergy to any of those products, your skin will also react to the solution. (Ask for list of ingredients at the spray tanning salon if you have any serious allergies).
Everybody's skin develops its own individual colour. Some people go very brown, others get just a glow. For those people, with repeated sessions, the skin tends to get used to solution, and starts to develop more colour.
Again, it comes down to your skin. Your skin is a living thing, and is affected by many things like: time of the month, season, food you eat, stress, medication you take etc. If your tan is different, even though solution used was the same, the most probable cause is the condition of your skin.
Wait at least 6 hours. Chlorinated water will bleach your tan really quickly, so I would not advise it. If you want to swim in the sea, make your swims short. The longer you soak yourself, the faster your tan will come off.
No! Since organic colour pigment is not a stain or a dye, it will not permanently stain and will wash out of any synthetic material.
